Samsung Launches AI Center in Russia

Samsung Electronics announces the opening of the SAIC-Moscow (Samsung AI Center in Moscow), which will be located in the «White Square» business center near the Belorusskaya metro station in Moscow. The center will help the company strengthen its leadership in the field of artificial intelligence and explore the broad capabilities of user-oriented AI.

The main areas of research in the new Center will be computer vision, basic algorithms for artificial intelligence platform. and expand the field of AI for key areas such as, robotics, intelligent driving assistant, as well as for other future projects by Samsung.

The leader of Machine learning LAB of the SAIC-Moscow will be prof. Dmitry Vetrov. He has a Ph.D. in Physical and Mathematical sciences. As the leader of machine learning part of the AI ​​Center, he will coordinate research in the search, analysis and development of solutions based on in-depth training and a scalable Bayesian approach. Prof. Viktor Lempitsky will join the team of the Center as the leader of the computer vision, learning and telepresence research group.

The Center will include joint AI laboratories with leading Russian universities. Currently there are joint artificial intelligence labs at Moscow State University, the Higher School of Economics and the PDMI RAS. In addition, the company conducts projects with leading universities in many Russian cities, including Kazan, Samara, Rostov-on-Don, Tomsk, Novosibirsk. In the future it considers cooperating with Russian start-ups to solve practical problems. Going forward, these can be as full-fledged services related to AI and machine learning, as well as promising developments in the field of applications and components for the company’s products.

According to the forecasts of Samsung Electronics experts, in the coming years IoT devices with built-in AI will generate enormous amounts of data. By processing this information the devices will be able to provide maximum personalization and full compliance with the users’ needs.
