Samsung IT School supported the All-Russian contest of scientific works of schoolchildren «Junior», held at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI

Samsung IT School social and educational program again became a partner of the All-Russian contest of scientific works of schoolchildren «Junior» («Engineering Sciences: development of mobile applications for Android» section).

The All-Russian contest of scientific works of schoolchildren «Junior» is held by the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI for schoolchildren of grades 9-11 and is included in the list of Olympiads of the Russian Council of Olympiads of Schoolchildren. The winners of the «Junior» receive benefits for admission to Russian universities and, in particular, the right to enter the MEPhI without entrance tests.

The final stage of the Junior contest consisted of a subject Olympiad and the defense of the project according to the profile of the contest section. Samsung experts joined the jury of the Olympiad finals, which took place in mid-April at the MEPhI.

In the section «Engineering Sciences: development of mobile applications for Android», 37 schoolchildren from 9 cities (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Kursk, Ryazan, Izhevsk, Perm, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Tomsk) reached the final and presented 24 projects.

Graduates and students of the Samsung IT School program showed a high level of their training, taking all the places of the winners of the Junior contest in the section «Engineering Sciences: development of mobile applications for Android»:

  • Lev Marder, Alexander Osharov, Artem Dobychin, Dmitry Kalashnikov (Samsung IT School at the MEPhI Pre-University, Moscow) with the application «Interactive Map of Local History», which builds sightseeing tours on the map using information from the Unified State Register of Cultural Heritage Sites of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.
  • Alexander Kulagin with the «Pokupai-Pomogai (Buy-Help)» application (Samsung IT School at the College of Communications No. 54, Moscow). This application is designed to help with the purchase of products for those in need, with whom you live nearby and go to the same store, for example, Pyaterochka.
  • Angelika Demidova with the project «Automation of car rental services» (Samsung IT School at the MEPhI pre-university, Moscow).
  • Omelchuk Grigory with the messenger «GhostTalk» (Samsung IT School at the College of Communications No. 54, Moscow).
  • Mikhailova Polina with a colorful game «Incredible Volleyball» (Samsung IT School at the Secondary School No. 120, Omsk).

Graduates of the Samsung IT School successfully used the knowledge and experience gained in the framework of the program in developing mobile applications. So, Alexander Kulagin, Grigory Omelchuk and Polina Mikhailova are already contest winners – in 2023 they win the annual contest of graduate projects for the development of mobile applications «IT School chooses the strongest!». And Angelika Demidova, despite her school age, is already involved in the development of a commercial application as an intern.

The All-Russian contest of scientific works of schoolchildren «Junior» has been held since 1998. It is organized by the MEPhI, Rosatom, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, and the Moscow Department of Education. The aim of the contest is to develop students’ interest in natural sciences and attract higher school specialists to work with high school students.

Samsung IT School is a federal social and educational program for the training of future IT specialists, which is part of the global initiative of Samsung Innovation Campus. The program was launched in 2014 and is aimed at obtaining theoretical and practical skills in programming for students in grades 9-10 who have a tendency to algorithmic thinking, are interested in IT technologies and have stable knowledge of the school computer science and mathematics course. Students of the program study the development of mobile applications in the ideology «from idea to distribution» in Java for the Android.

Since the start of the program in 2014, 5,356 graduates in Russia and Armenia have completed the annual program with a Samsung certificate, 12% of them with honors. To date, full-time classes at Samsung IT School are held at 46 sites in 38 cities, as well as online.

Samsung IT School is a partner of the Mobile Development direction of the IT Cube federal project, within the framework of which centers for the development of IT creativity for children and adolescents operate in the regions of Russia.

Samsung IT School has been awarded the Runet National Prize twice: as a separate project in the Science and Education nomination and as part of the Samsung Innovation Campus global initiative in the Education and Human Resources nomination.

The Samsung IT School video podcast, in which program graduates participate, is published on the official YouTube channel, helps to learn more about the program, about potential opportunities and career features in the field of mobile development, about the IT industry in general. In a new podcast episode, which was released in early April, graduates of the Samsung IT School answer a question: «Is hackathon more work or fun?». Admission to the Samsung IT School for the 2024/2025 academic year started on April 1. Applications for admission are accepted until September 8, 2024. Admission is traditionally based on the results of two stages of entrance examinations. The first qualifying stage is an online test that must be completed on the Samsung IT School website by September 8, 2024. The results of the first stage will be available within 2 days. Candidates who have successfully passed the online testing will receive an invitation to the second stage. It will be held in person at all sites of the project from August 19 to September 15, 2024.
