Samsung IT School supported HSE Summer School on software engineering

Samsung IT School acted as a partner of the Summer School on Software Engineering, which was held in July 2023 on the Computer Science Faculty of the National Research University Higher School of Economics. 16 schoolchildren successfully completed Samsung’s educational track at the Summer School: «Mobile Game Development in Java». During the training, the students created mobile games for Android (the genres are clicker, shooter and arcade). The partners of the Summer School were also 1C Company and the «Indicator» community of game creators.

The Summer School on Software Engineering, which took place in the first half of July at the campus of the HSE University in Moscow, was attended by students of grades 8-11. The Summer School program included lectures and seminars on software engineering and specialized topics according to the educational track.

As a result of the Summer School, participants from Samsung IT School track gained practical knowledge of mobile game development in Java using LibGDX framework, which allows creating mobile games for Android operatively. The program for the «Mobile Game Development in Java» educational track was created by the experts of Samsung IT School, and the track was supervised by Andrei Limasov, head of educational programs on mobile development of the Samsung Innovation Campus social and educational project.

Samsung IT School additional education program within the Samsung Innovation Campus project annually allows hundreds of schoolchildren across Russia to learn in-depth basics of mobile development and create their own projects. Thanks to the Summer School on Software Engineering of the Computer Science Faculty of HSE, more talented and enthusiastic children got an excellent opportunity to take their first steps in programming. In the future, the children will be able to continue their education at the Samsung IT School and IT Academy to become high-class IT developers,» said Sergey Pevnev, Vice President of Samsung Electronics CIS headquarters.

Samsung IT School is a federal social and educational program to train future IT specialists, which is part of the Samsung Innovation Campus global initiative. Every year, more than 1,500 high school students receive free training by this project. Since the launch of the project in 2014, 4156 graduates have completed the annual program with a Samsung certificate, 11.3% of them recieved the certificate with honors. To date, Samsung IT School operates at 57 sites in 46 Russian cities, including Voronezh, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Krasnoyarsk, Lipetsk, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Stavropol, Syktyvkar, Ufa, Khabarovsk and other cities.

Students of Samsung IT School, schoolchildren of 9-10 grades get knowledge and practical skills of developing mobile applications in Java for Android. Since the program’s beginning, more than 5,000 graduates have been awarded course completion certificates.

The Samsung IT School educational course is planned for one academic year. The classes are conducted in the format of additional education on a free of charge basis. Projects of all graduates participate in the annual federal contest of mobile applications «IT School chooses the strongest!». A graduate certificate of Samsung IT School and a diploma of the winner of this federal contest gives students additional points when entering Russian universities. The final of the annual mobile application development contest «IT School Chooses the Strongest!» for the 2022-2023 academic year took place in early July.

Samsung IT School was twice awarded the national Runet Prize: as a separate project in the Science and Education category and as part of the Samsung Innovation Campus global initiative in the Education and Human Resources category.
