Samsung IT Academy has a new training track — Big Data

Samsung IT Academy held an official opening of a new educational track dedicated to working with Big Data at the site of its first partner in this area, the RTU MIREA.

Today RTU MIREA is the largest site of the Samsung Innovation Campus. All Samsung IT Academy tracks are implemented there: Big Data, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, and both courses of the Mobile Development (Java for first-year students and Kotlin for senior students). Since 2017, when the IT Academy started in this university, more than 300 students of the Institute of Information Technology of RTU MIREA have graduated from the program. Starting this year, Samsung IT Academy educational courses have been available to students of the Artificial Intelligence Institute and Radioelectronics and Informatics Institute.

When new educational direction of the Samsung IT Academy opens Vice-President of Samsung Electronics Sergei Pevnev discussed with the rector of RTU MIREA Stanislav Kudzh the results of five years of cooperation between the university and the IT Academy as well as further development of the partnership. At the meeting with RTU MIREA professors and students, Samsung representatives talked about the new course on Big Data, the features of this specialization and the reasons why it is one of the most demanded in the industry. In addition, nine professors of the university, received certificates confirming their qualification to teach courses at Samsung IT Academy.

The new track started as a pilot project in RTU MIREA in autumn 2022, when more than a hundred students of the university started to study the course on Big Data. The teachers of the Institute of Information Technologies of RTU MIREA and the staff of the Samsung R&D Institute Russia have jointly developed an online course on Big Data in Russian, based on materials provided by Samsung as part of the global Samsung Innovation Campus.

The program of the new educational track includes nine modules, which cover the entire cycle of working with Big Data: from receiving and storage to visualization and security. The course contains 125 theoretical tests and 50 practical works with the study of Open Source Apache tools in a prepared virtual machine image. Like all Samsung IT Academy courses, the Big Data education track is practice-oriented and concludes with a project defense. In the fall of 2023, the first graduates of the track will take part in the annual inter-university All-Russian contest of Samsung IT Academy projects.

Starting next academic year, the Big Data track will be available to all partners of the project,» said Sergey Pevnev, vice president of Samsung Electronics headquarters for CIS countries.

Moreover, one of the rapidly developing technologies is Big Data. The speed and availability of information — Big Data — form a completely new technological way of today and tomorrow. Therefore, educational programs in the area of Big Data play a crucial role in training personnel for the digital economy of the Russian Federation. We set a goal to bring up a new generation of developers, whose education would meet all modern requirements. We are sure that by developing cooperation and interaction with Samsung Electronics we will be able to achieve our ambitious goals,» said Stanislav Alexeyevich Kudz, Rector of RTU MIREA.

Over the five years of holding the inter-university competition of Samsung IT Academy projects, the students of RTU MIREA have won the largest number of prizes. Among the main awards of the contest is the «Samsung Choice», which has been awarded a record two times, as well as the «University of the Year» and «Teacher of the Year» awards, which were received by Anton Mironov, a teacher and curator of the IoT track, following the results of the 2021/22 academic year. Every year, students trained under his guidance reach the finals of the intercollegiate project competition.

Samsung Electronics educational project for schoolchildren — Samsung IT School also actively cooperates with RTU MIREA. In August 2019, Samsung Electronics became one of the first official industrial partners of the Children’s Technological Park of RTU MIREA. Samsung IT School program was included among the courses of the «Information Technologies» educational cluster.

Samsung IT Academy is a long-term free social and educational program of Samsung Electronics. The project was launched in 2017. The educational course of Samsung IT Academy is aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the most demanded areas of IT: Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Mobile Development. As of today, the Samsung IT Academy program is taught at 31 universities in Russia.

In the academic year 2021/2022, about 500 students from 26 Russian universities graduated from the program in three tracks: Mobile Development, Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence. 48% of the students graduated from the Internet of Things track, 34% graduated from the Mobile Development track and 18% graduated from the Artificial Intelligence track.

Samsung IT Academy is part of the global Samsung Innovation Campus initiative. In addition, Samsung IT School represents this initiative in Russia. In September 2020, the educational program of the Academy was awarded the prize «The Best Social Projects of Russia». In 2021, Samsung received the Runet Award, the most prestigious award of the Russian Internet in the «Education and Personnel» category, for the implementation of the Samsung Innovation Campus in Russia.
