The Winners of IT School Contest Receive Additional Points at the Admission to Universities

«IT School chooses the strongest!» contest of the Samsung IT School social educational project was included in the «List of Olympiads and other intellectual and creative contests, events aimed at developing intellectual and creative abilities, abilities for physical education and sports, interest in scientific (research), engineering and technical, inventive, creative, physical culture and sports activities, as well as to promote scientific knowledge, creative and sporting achievements” of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation for the 2021/22 academic year.

Thanks to the inclusion in the official Olympiads list, the contest winners receive additional points at the admission to all Russian universities that take into account the activities of the Ministry of Education list or specifically the Samsung IT School graduate contest. This year, 581 schoolchildren became graduates of Samsung IT School. Among them, 215 graduates were awarded diplomas as part of the regional stage of the «IT School chooses the strongest!» contest. 19 projects (24 people) took part in the final, and 10 projects (14 people) became the winners.

“89% of the Samsung IT School graduates plan further education in universities in IT-directions. We are glad that young talented programmers who have successfully completed our program and demonstrated their skills on the contest can get an additional advantage when entering universities,” said Sergey Pevnev, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Headquarters for the CIS.

«IT School chooses the strongest!» has been held since 2015. The event is the key final contest of the Samsung IT School socio-educational program on an all-Russian scale and is held annually among all certified graduates of the program. At the contest, students submit graduation projects — their own Android applications.

The contest consists of three stages, and the final round jury includes teachers from the Samsung IT School, the academic community representatives, Samsung R&D Institute Russia experts and employees of Yandex, Kaspersky Lab and other leading IT companies.

The Grand Prix winners in the 2021/22 academic year were Muscovites Anton Vorobyov and Dmitry Ledokhovich with an application project for an umbrella rental system that they developed under the guidance of teacher Fyodor Sedov, a former graduate of the Samsung IT School. A service with a working device prototype allows the user to read the barcode and pick up the umbrella, and then return it to another storage.

Samsung IT School is a federal social and educational program for the future IT specialists training, which is part of the Samsung Innovation Campus global initiative. The program developed by Samsung R&D Institute Russia, started in 2014 and is focused on obtaining theoretical and practical skills in the programming by schoolchildren in grades 9–10 who have a penchant for algorithmic thinking, who are fond of IT technologies and have stable knowledge of the computer science school course and mathematics. Students of this program study the mobile applications development on Java for Android in the «from idea to distribution» ideology. Schoolchildren chose their future profession and realize themselves in the information technology — a key direction in the country’s economy development.

Every year, more than 1,000 students from more than 50 Russian cities get the opportunity to raise in the mobile development field. In the next academic year, Samsung IT School will open several additional groups with distance learning. This will allow schoolchildren from regions where it is not possible to attend in-person classes to take a training course in an online format.
