Samsung Russia Wins the HR Brand Award

On February the 21st, 2019, Samsung Research Russia Center (SRR) won the HR Brand Award 2018, which is one of the most prestigious HR management contests in Russia. Not only did they win in Russia, the opening of the Samsung AI Center in Moscow (SAIC-Moscow), as well as a number of social, educational, and scientific programs, ensured that SRR were named second in the World nomination.

With the launch of SAIC-Moscow in 2018, which is one of only seven Samsung AI centers in the world, the company has taken another step toward development in many areas including the professional growth of employees, cutting-edge research, and joint international projects.

«The people who work for Samsung Research are the gold fund that ensures the company’s future prosperity. Samsung’s Russian Research Center in Moscow has been open since 1993, but it gained a new AI Center in 2018, which will bolster the already impressive expertise of Russian researchers, data scientists, programmers, and engineers. The great potential of their future research projects will allow us to develop dynamically and create innovative technologies. Furthermore, by participating in social and educational programs, our employees will be exposed to greater knowledge and will have the opportunity to share their own expertise across sectors and with the new generation» said Jin Wook Lee, Vice President at Samsung Electronics, Head of SRR.

Of all of Samsung’s AI centers in the world, the team of researchers at SAIC-Moscow is one of the largest and most capable—SAIC-Moscow employs experts in the fields of: data analysis, machine learning, computer vision, virtual and augmented reality, and robotics. The team includes internationally acclaimed winners of data analysis competitions, such as Pavel Ostyakov, who earned the title of Kaggle Grand Master and took 4th place in the global rankings. Moreover, the Head of Vision, Learning and Telepresence at SAIC-Moscow, Victor Lempitsky, was the most cited scientist in Russia in 2018, according to information provided by the analysis company, Elsevier. As well as being hugely successful, SAIC-Moscow fosters a spirit of innovation by encouraging researchers to participate in advanced international scientific conferences, such as CVPR, ECCV, Neurips, and others.

SRR further earned the HR Brand Award because it supports wide-scale social and educational programs, including «Samsung IT School» and «Samsung IoT Academy», which are both implemented in cooperation with Samsung Russia & CIS HQ. Thousands of university students and school children, across 25 Russian cities, have had the opportunity to study in much sought after IT classes, for free! The programs were successfully adopted in other Commonwealth of International States (CIS) countries.

The Samsung Research Russia Center has also developed and organized a number of educational initiatives, which include: the «NLP & Deep Learning» course at the Moscow State University; «Samsung AI Boot camp», which is a student summer school focused on machine learning; and «Deep Bayes School». «Deep Bayes School» was set up with the participation of data analysis experts and international speakers to discuss how Bayesian Methods can lead to better results in machine learning applications. This initiative was supervised by Dmitry Vetrov, who is the Head of the SAIC-Moscow Machine Learning Lab. As a result of the many social, educational, and scientific programs implemented over the years, the number of interns at SRR tripled in 2018, in contrast to the previous year!
